The Polynesian is based on a tropical, South Pacific theme. guests lodge throughout 11 longhouses named after Polynesian cultures. Buildings include: Aoteroa, Fiji, Tuvalu, Tonga Rarotonga, Niue, Samoa, Hawaii, Tokelau, Tahiti and Rapa Nui. Guests first enter the Great Ceremonial House which was inspired by a royal Tahitian assembly lodge. Amoung the exotic and lovely flora and fauna at the resort is a unique "Kukui Nut" tree from Hawaii, which happens to be the only one on the Disney property. Disney's Polynesian Resort opened on October 1 1971 with 492 rooms and has since expanded to include 853 rooms. The motto of Disney's Polynesian Resort is "Aiita Peatea" which means
"There will be another day tomorrow, just like today. And a beautiful day it will be!"
