Pluto,also called Pluto the Pup, made his screen debut in 1930 in the cartoon short, The Chain Gang as a bloodhound hot on Mickey Mouse's trail. Later that same year he appeared as Minnie Mouses dog named Rover but it wasn't until 1931 in The Moose Hunt that Pluto was renamed to "Pluto the Pup" and became Mickey's best pal and loyal companion. Unlike Goofy, who was created as a human character, Pluto was specifically created a dog.
